Whether your child’s views towards reading are positive, negative, or indifferent, there are a few simple things you can do to help nurture their love of reading.

READING TO YOUR CHILD
If you’re looking for a special way to bond with your child, consider making reading aloud a part of your family routine! The benefits of reading aloud are immeasurable. In The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease, he details the many benefits of reading aloud. Here are some of my favorites.

· To inform or explain
· To arouse curiosity
· To inspire
· To build vocabulary
· To condition the child’s brain to associate reading with pleasure
· To create background knowledge on a variety of topics
· To provide a reading role model (that’s you!)
· To plant a desire to read
